No Cameras. Please.

This was a reply to a post in Facebook about people who wanted to take pictures with or of the late former president Corazon Aquino of the Philippines:

Maybe it is one of the new landmarks of this generation, where taking a picture is no longer limited to the photographers or journalists but can now be done by any man because the technology is now available to almost anyone. In some ways it is a new freedom that some people, as expected, are abusing. In this case, taking a photograph without discretion or authority would disturb the solemnity of the wake. Even if we set aside that it brings disrespect for the dead, it is also disrespecting the living. It is a total lack of respect for the grieving family. I mean the dead won't care but I'm sure the family wouldn't want people indiscriminately taking snapshots of or with their dearly departed. Aside from that, I'd rather have a picture of Tita Cory when was still alive than a picture of her in her wake. I bet she'd prefer people to remember her when she was standing up to the evils of this country than lying down in her casket. And come on, taking pictures of or with the dead? That's creepy.
